We held our annual Beat the Field to Beat Diabetes Poker Tournament this past Saturday, and it was a HUGE success! We set an all-time record for money raised and people in attendance! Which is amazing since we held it on Memorial Day weekend when everyone is out of town. 🙂 It was a lot of fun. A ton of my Dad’s friends were there, plus my Grandma and Grandpa and a few of my teachers. They all had a great time and a ton of laughs. The last hand of the tournament at the final table was incredible though! It was down to my Drama teacher, Darell Miller, and our school district’s Director of Curriculum, Terry Parker. They were playing Texas Hold Em’ and were down to the last card to be flipped, and the only thing Terry needed to beat Miller was a Jack, and guess what popped up: a Jack! On the last card! Everyone went crazy! It was awesome and the night couldn’t have ended better.

I really love this event for a few reasons. One is that everyone gets to have a fun time to play poker together. Two, because we get to fundraise even more money to help JDRF find a cure for diabetes (we raised a total of over $3,000 this year!). And three, because of all the support we get. I feel so special to have that many people behind me and supporting me. And the fact that my Dad works so hard to put this event on every year makes me feel so special, and I couldn’t be happier or prouder to be who I am today.

I apologize that I don’t have any pictures, we didn’t take any. I’ll take some next year, I promise!
