Yesterday was a monumental day in my diabetes world; I finally agreed to put my Dexcom blood sugar sensor on my arm. After months of refusing to go anywhere other than my stomach and my hips, I finally made myself try it and I have to say it is not as bad as I thought it was going to be. It didn’t hurt (which I was worried about) and so far there has only been one instance where I almost ripped it out getting dressed this morning. After seeing all of my fellow ambassadors with their sensors and ports on their arms, I decided it was probably time for me to try it too. The main thing I like about having it on my arm is that people can see it when I take my jacket off. I love seeing people’s reaction to it and I think it can bring great awareness to what Type 1 Diabetes really is and what we have to endure every single day. I am very proud of myself for finally trying something new and I can’t wait to see what else the future holds.
